The sizing of any garage door slabs to be used as swinging or sliding doors is quite flexible, but does have some practical limitations based on shipping and performance. For ultimate performance, we recommend that doors be less than 5 feet wide and under 9 feet in height. Since swing garage doors are often furnished as pairs that “fit up” to each other, it’s important to take this size limitation into consideration.
Sliding garage doors have more tolerance in terms of size. Typically, sliding doors wider than 6 feet are built in halves for ease of shipping, and will be joined together on site using a factory prepared “spline” system, appropriate adhesive and tools.
