With Designer Doors, you can beautify your home, save energy and earn a $1,500 tax credit. The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 significantly extended and increased tax credits for energy-efficient home improvement. Energy-efficient doors from Designer Doors qualify for the generous $1,500 tax credit.
To qualify for the credit, a door must have a U-Factor and Solar Heat Gain Coefficient (SHGC) of .30 or below. (Many windows are rated at .32 or higher.) After extensive testing, Designer Doors is proud to announce that our I-Frame™,Woodscapes™, and Timbercraft™ doors have a U-factor and SHGC of 0.25 -- far below the minimum required and significantly lower than many other window and door products.
Adding a new Designer Doors garage door in 2009 or 2010 now has even more benefit than simply lowering home energy consumption costs. It will now be even more affordable to do so. Tax credits do more for you than an equivalent tax deduction because a tax credit reduces tax dollar-for-dollar, while deductions only decrease the amount of income that is taxed.
Contact Designer Doors today for complete assistance with your replacement door. We'll design and build the perfect garage door for your home, arrange for installation and haul your old door away.
Important details regarding the tax credit:
- The tax credits are available for qualifying garage door purchases "placed in service" from Jan. 1, 2009, through Dec. 31, 2010.
- The maximum tax credit that a taxpayer may claim from all qualifying improvements combined is 30 percent the cost of each product and $1500 over the lifetime of the tax credit periods (2009 and 2010).
How to Calculate the Credit
The homeowner's tax credit is based on the total material cost of the purchase (installation and other costs incurred do not qualify). The tax credit is equal to the sum of 30 percent of all qualified energy-saving improvements installed in an existing home in the calendar years of 2009 and 2010. The maximum credit is $1500.
Eligibility
- The door must be an insulated residential garage door
- The door must be installed on an insulated garage
- The door must have a U-factor equal to or less than 0.30, even if the door contains glazing
- If the door contains windows (glazing), the door must offer a Solar Heat Gain Coefficient (SHGC) equal to or less than 0.30
- The door perimeter must have a means to control air infiltration
- The door must be expected to remain in service for at least five years
- The garage must be part of the taxpayer's principal U.S. residence
- A Manufacturer’s Certification statement and a breakdown of the material and labor costs is required
